Inspiring others to explore together – because family travel has so many benefits.
We are a LGBT+ family who love to travel. Family travel brings so many benefits to the outlook of our children.
We’re so passionate about travel, that we’ve now launched Trowberry Travel Advice – Book a session with us now!
We prioritise family travel from both a time and financial perspective. Family travel educates them in ways the classroom can’t. Don’t get us wrong, after our gap year the kids are going back to school as we think there is value in both. But they will return with new confidence, patience, resilience, insight and outlook that they only got from exploring the world with us. This is especially true of off-the beaten track places such as Denmark, Taiwan, Guatemala and Nicaragua.

We aren’t overly wealthy but we do make financial decisions with travel in mind. We have worked whilst we have been travelling the world, and we know some cheap travel hacks which makes travel affordable for everyone. Travel also doesn’t mean going abroad. There is plenty of exploration to be done in your own country too – we love nothing more than nights away in our Mazda Bongo, Bethilda or at a YHA.
Essentially that’s family travel – just exploring together.

So Who Are the Trowberrys?

Travel has always been important to us, as has our time as a family. After 20 years in the corporate world and the demands of juggling the busy world of UK-life, change was needed. We decided it was time to do more of what we love, together! We completed a gap year which turned into 16 months of full-time family travel! This was an epic adventure and we continue to travel whenever we can.
Get to know us all a little better here! We’d love for you to feel part of our adventure, and to share our travel experiences and mistakes! and we’d love to meet up with any one else keen for an adventure.
Kris here – I am the words behind the Travelling Trowberrys blog! I’ve worked for large outsourcing companies for over 15 years, mainly in sales and marketing. I speak German and Spanish after studying interpreting to Masters level. I lived in Nepal from the age of 2 for 3 years. So far (as at January 2026) visited 49 countries so plenty of work to do here.
I enjoy swimming, paddleboarding and surfing – there’s a genuine watery theme going on here! I follow football, especially the Women’s game! And of course travel, whether it’s with my favourites on this page, or with my girlfriends for city or beach breaks, or even work. I like to escape the UK whenever I can! and I like to help others do the same!
I love Mexican food, I rarely sit still, always plotting the next move, and hate the laundry!

This is Stef – the creative one and very much in charge of the photos! Stef’s an artist, with one hell of a talent for figurative and landscape pieces – shameless plug to her website here.
After travelling for a year with pals after uni, thankfully Stef loves her holidays and trips away as much as I do which has made us a good match since 2009. She’s the social one of us, always out with friends exploring the newest art exhibition, or local brewery.
She dreams the ideas, without her we’d be in the same 8-5 grind! She’s also the one who drives our fitness and exercise and looks out for us all.
Stef loves asian food, anything noodle based, and hates football!
Alicia is the oldest of our two, currently 10 and rapidly becoming a worldly tween-ager! A lover of all things sparkle and glamour, and with a dress sense totally unique to her. She’s pretty thrifty on the paddleboard, and is a yellow belt at Karate. She’s been playing the clarinet for just over a year, enjoys learning Spanish and is quite a fish in the pool.
Lissie loves cake, and chocolate and desserts in general – a sweet tooth does not do her eating abilities justice! She is a machine and her favourite part of any holiday is knowing whether there is a buffet in the hotel!
She has so many special friends in her life and adores her time with her grandparents – especially when travelling with them.

Nyle – our little Nylie!
Car obsessed and enthusiast for all things with wheels Our stylish little dude will often be seen with a hat and bow tie, and is very particular when it comes to having his long hair.
He’s just got his first skateboard, continuing the theme of wheels in his life. He rode a bike at age 3, scootered before he was 2 and will likely be driving by the age of 10, if he could!
He loves nothing more than running on an empty beach. He’s the wildlife spotter in our family too. He’s a fan of rice, sausages and plain pasta and loves nothing more than a bit of a snuggle with his mums!
And the newest and 5th member to the Trowberry clan is Bethilda.
Bethilda is our Mazda Bongo campervan which has enabled us to continue our family travel adventure when we had to unexpectedly return to the UK during our family gap year.
You can learn more about Bethilda and our vanlife adventures here.
