“this is Manchester, we do things different here”!
-Tony Wilson
After spending time around the world and enjoying various Worldschool Hubs and communities, we’ve decided it’s time to give back and create our own hub. And we are so excited to host you in our incredible home city!
The hub will run from Wednesday 10th – Wednesday 17th September, inclusive!
With an optional bolt-on hub to the great British countryside from 17th – 21st September. Read more about that here.
Manchester worldschool hub details
We love our home city of Manchester and we want to share that with you. Manchester offers so much to visitors. It’s the home of 2 world famous football teams. It is the birthplace of many global musicians and song writers. It’s a vibrant city offering art, history and culture. It offers all this but without the price tag of London! And it’s surrounded by National Parks less than an hour away.

So here’s the full details and FAQs. Read on and join us for an unforgettable experience in the first Manchester-based Worldschool Hub.
Worldschool Hub Sample Activities and Itinerary
The full itinerary will be published once we have more of a feel for numbers, ages and interests, but you can expect a lot of the below to feature. We’ll also have Plan Bs in place in case the notorious Manchester weather isn’t kind to us.
- Explore Manchester City centre with visits to the Art Gallery, John Rylands Library (think Harry Potter), Manchester Library and the vibrant and quirky Northern Quarter district.
- Be mesmerised with hands-on interactive museums such as the National Football Museum*, Manchester Museum and Museum of Science and Industry.
- Enjoy a tour of one of the greatest football stadiums in the world, Old Trafford* or the Etihad!*
- Visit Europe’s largest metropolitan park, Heaton Park, with boating lake, 2 huge playgrounds, an old tramway and plenty of space for picnics, games and running around.
- Be amazed with our local National Trust venues – meet the local deer, learn the workings of an industrial mill* and enjoy beautiful English gardens*.
- Dive into the history of Manchester’s industrial past with a walking tour and tick off iconic British sites with a treasure hunt – think red phone boxes!
- Try to find all the space invaders, enjoy a pint in the city’s oldest pub, sample a traditional English afternoon tea*, or run riot in the city’s largest outdoor space at Mayfair Depot.
- Arts, crafts and games scattered throughout the week, suitable for all the family.
- Hit the peaks of the Peak District National Park, just 45 minutes on the train, or sample traditional British Fish and Chips by the seaside, just over 1 hour away by train.

What’s the cost of the Manchester worldschool hub?
The cost is just £195 per family – this covers all logistical arrangements, bookings, reservations and facilitating communication before and during the hub. We’re on hand to answer any questions and provide support throughout your journey with us. We’ll also be part of all the activities, provide information on where to meet and ensure everyone knows where to go, when and how?!
There’s an early bird discount of 15% (£165) if you secure your spot before end May 2025.
We’re offering a 10% discount if attending both the Manchester and Countryside hubs.
What’s not included in the Worldschool hub?
We want there to be a lot of free activities during our time together. Unless marked with an *, then all the activities above are free to join and participate in, or will be a very minimal cost of less than £5.
Accommodation, food/drink and transport are not included – but we’ll help you with the arrangements and recommend places to stay. We’ll aim to house families near each other depending on individual budgets and family needs and ensure you are close to the public transport network.
Travel insurance should be taken out in case of accident, injury or cancellation.

FAQs
How do we get to Manchester?
Manchester has a huge and well connected airport, offering flights to and from most European cities, and even direct flights to the Middle East and major airport hubs in the US. We are also just over 2 hours on the train from London – but we do recommend flying into Manchester if you can for ease.
We’d suggest arriving on 8th or 9th to ensure you’re ready for the adventure beginning on Wednesday 10th.
Do we need to hire a car?
No – we’ll ensure that public transport is possible for most of our activities. Anywhere further afield (max 30 mins) we will arrange transport (and split the cost between everyone). If you do want to hire a car, then let us know so we can ensure parking is available near your accommodation.
Who is the hub for?
One word – families! Whether you are travelling full time, home-schooling, vanlife-ing or on a family holiday, we would love to have you join us. This is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded families from around the world! One things we’ve learned is that when there is a community, life is easier as the kids are happier! And that’s what we want to create! We’re not putting any age range on our hub as we think the city really can cater for all with a huge range of different activities. We’ll share the ages of the children as soon as we know.
Who are our hosts?
We are!! The Trowberrys, Kris, Stef, Alicia and Nyle! We’ve spent the last 12 months travelling the world as a family and so we think we have a pretty good idea of what works, what doesn’t and what families need when travelling, worldschooling, vanlife-ing or homeschooling.

What is the typical cost of accommodation?
You should easily be able to get somewhere central and of good quality for less than £100 a night. There are lots of serviced apartments in Manchester with 2 bedrooms, kitchens and living areas. Budget hotels with 2 double beds may be slightly cheaper, and if you want to reduce the costs further then just let us know and we’ll suggest places a little further from the city centre but near good transport links.
What other costs will I have?
You’ll need to arrange your own food, pay for any transport (mainly public transport), and any of the activities that aren’t free – but all activities are optional so there’s no obligation to pay for any you don’t want to do.
We want to combine this with a tour of England – where do you recommend for before and after?
We are also hosting an additional hub in the great British countryside straight after the city hub. We’ll arrange group accommodation and all activities during this time for 4 nights. Think hiking, forests exploration, castles and gardens. This will be heavily outdoor-based and we would recommend hiring a car which you can do from Manchester city centre or the airport. Transport options and costs are possible if you don’t want to drive on the left!
Here’s some other ideas for exploration and distances from Manchester (either driving or by train):
- York – 90 minutes
- London – 2.5 hours by train, 5 hours driving
- Edinburgh – 4-5 hours
- Lake District – 2 hours
- Peak District – 1 hour
- North Wales – 2 hours (climb Snowdon!)
- Liverpool – home of the Beatles – 1 hour
- Chester – 1 hour
There really is more to the UK than just London, and Manchester is a great base to explore from. We’re here to help you plan any before or after adventures you may want to do. But we hope we’ve peaked your interest and you’d love to join us and extend the worldschool hub for some outdoor adventure into the beautiful English countryside!
